There's so much to be thankful for today and every day. But if we are not first and foremost thankful to God for his providence in sending and providing for missionaries to the New World for the advancement of the Gospel of Christ, we miss the point.
I love turkey and naps during football like so many others, but let's not let the true meaning of this holiday pass us by. This nation was birthed by people with a God-given burden for spreading the gospel and forming a government that was based on his Word. In spite of great hardship and personal loss, they persevered. Because of their steadfast devotion and God's gracious hand, you and I are blessed above all nations.
True thanks is demonstrated by being vigilant stewards of this gift. If we are to continue as a blessed nation, we would do well to remember our true beginnings, repent of our national and personal sins and return in word and deed to the God of our salvation.
To God be the glory forever and ever!
